Three Common Pest Infestations in the South

Due to the unique climate conditions of the south, Florida homeowners are more likely to find signs of these three unwanted pests. Fortunately, all it takes is one call to a pest control company to have the problem handled.

Termites

Termites are often called “silent destroyers” because they can thrive in your home, consuming wood and other cellulose-based plant materials, without causing any immediate signs of damage. Although termites are only a few millimeters in length, their feeding habits are exponentially larger and can destroy house foundations, furniture, shelves, books, and even your trees outside.

Termite removal needs to occur as soon as you realize termites are threatening your home. The longer you wait, the more expensive and extensive the damage will become. Pay especially close attention for termites in the spring months, since this is when large numbers of winged termites tend to emerge inside homes triggered by rainfall and warmer temperatures.

Bees

Bees can also be very dangerous to a person with severe allergic reactions that affect the whole body within just a few minutes. Every person who is aware of the potential for anaphylactic reactions should carry an Epipen, but it’s still important to use a green pest control company to relocate bees away from the home in order to minimize all risk. This is especially true since many younger people don’t know if they have severe reactions to bee stings until a sting occurs and the nervous system begins to shut down.

Rodents

Skunks, squirrels, birds, raccoons, rats, and mice are the most common rodents to make themselves at home in your attic or basement. These small, speedy, and elusive animals have the potential to cause extensive damage to your home; a skunk might make everything smell impossibly awful, while a rat might chew right through insulation. As if that weren’t enough, rodents also carry diseases, parasites, and even other pests like fleas into your home, which doubles your problem. Your pest control company will remove the rodents, clean up their messes, and sanitize your home so you can relax in comfort once again.
