Exploring Home Pest Control

September 18th, 2014

If you’re thinking about home pest control as a way to stop pest infestation before or after you’ve gotten in touch with a professional pest control agency, then these tips will help you control insects in and outside your home. You should always read the product label on any home pest control product, because using one incorrectly can be dangerous.

When you have pests indoors, do the following:

  • Make sure you spray under big appliances, cabinets, and the kitchen sink, in the kitchen.
  • You also need to spray around nooks, cracks, crevices, and crannies. You should spray at door thresholds and near baseboards too. Those pests can hide just about anywhere, and you want to spray everywhere, even though it is tedious.
  • You should also spray under the bathroom baseboards and under the bathroom sink cabinets. Have a maid professionally clean your home before you start spraying, especially in the bathroom, because you can get dirty by crawling around on all fours and spraying in every little nook and cranny in your home. Make sure to open the windows of your home when you’re doing pest control spraying.
  • Leave the spray in place for a long period of time in order to get the longest-lasting effects that offer continuous pest control for up to a year (make sure you read and follow the directions on the label to ensure that you’re doing it right.)

When you have pests outdoors, do the following:

Since insects that come in the house live right near your front, back, side, and garage door, you need to treat areas that are near your house to ensure that pests are stopped from getting in.

  • Spray on exterior surfaces, like on walls or other areas where pests might be hiding
  • Treat the walkways, soil, and lawn near your house
  • Spray around the window and door-frames, near gutters, and around the openings where utilities come into the house.
  • Spray on the joints and cracks on building and siding materials
